This concert will spotlight the music of the legendary Herbie Hancock, with big band and combo performances of some of his most celebrated compositions, including "Chameleon," "Tell Me a Bedtime Story," and "Cantaloupe Island." Under the direction of Jonathan Nathan, the UCSB Jazz Ensemble will showcase both large and small group arrangements, offering an exciting range of sounds that capture Hancock’s signature fusion of jazz, funk, and soul. The evening promises an immersive exploration of Hancock's groundbreaking musical influence, performed by some of the most talented student musicians from UCSB.


Herbie Hancock, a multi-Grammy-winning artist and a pivotal figure in modern jazz, has left an indelible mark on music history. The evening’s repertoire will span various eras of Hancock’s career, giving audiences a taste of his innovative compositions and improvisational genius.
